Grading
Information
How Do I Grade My
Collection?
Since antiquarian materials are rarely found
in as-new condition, it is recommended that a dialogue establish
the condition and types of defects acceptable to the collector.
Condition will greatly affect not only the price, but also the
availability of the scarce materials.
In general the following grades are used for
magazines: as new, fine, very good, good, and
binding copy. The latter may have one or both covers , and/or ads
missing. In all cases contents are complete. In the case of National
Geographic Magazines, old ones usually are found without the supplemental
maps or pictorials which may have been sent out with them originally by
the Society. Therefore, the maps and pictorials are listed and priced
separately. If combined, this will be noted in the quote.
